China Town - Day 4

The Beatnik Area

After the Cathedral we took a walk through the Beatnik area, where there are beautiful paintings and poetry on the walls and ground. From there we went down the bottom of Lombard Street. This is the crookedest street in the world.

Lombard Street

From there we walked down a hill that was a 31% grade. It was so steep that they actually cut lines in the cement to give a person's feet a better grip.

We looked at the houses on the way down. They are right beside each other. Here is a picture of someone who actually has a little area to play in the front of their house. Their car is parked on a concrete area beside this.

You can see that raised area to the right. That is where their car is parked - on street level - remember this yard is built on a hill. It was rare to see a yard in San Francisco. This property might be worth a lot! Right beside this is a school yard. It was built right up to the street and all of it was on concrete. Not one blade of grass.

From here we wandered through China Town.

After we finished wandering through China Town we got on our tour bus to head back to the Ferry Building. Before we left we saw the tallest building in San Francisco. It also happens to be a triangle shape.

End of a Long Day!
